Overview
The former Rosedale Elementary School is a 36,501 square foot school facility constructed in 1939 situated on a 4.62 acre site located at 2117 West 49th Street and nestled in the Central 麻豆果冻传媒 neighborhood that bears its name. It was most recently home to the Rosedale School, which serves students from ages 3-22 with severe special needs, including children who are medically fragile or need intensive behavioral support. It also houses the Transition to Life in the Community program, which prepares older students for postsecondary life.
As part of the 2017 Bond Program, the District delivered a modernized facility located at the former Lucy Read Pre-K site at 7505 Silvercrest Drive that is custom-built to meet the needs of Rosedale students. The facility opened in February 2022.
Current Status
In October 2024, the 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD Board of Trustees approved declaring the property as surplus/excess. The District is in the process of marketing the property to potential development partners. No further decisions have been made at this time nor a determined use. A recommendation is anticipated to be brought to the Board in Spring 2025.
In the meantime, the former Rosedale School campus reopened its doors in February 2024 as a training facility for law enforcement officials, with a goal of training as many as 750 officers in the first phase. Training agencies include the 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD Police Department, as well as larger agencies, such as Travis County Constables. School safety continues to be top of mind after tragedies nationwide, including in Uvalde in 2022. This is an opportunity for law enforcement to practice life-saving strategies in a school setting.
