According to the College Board, of the AISD students who took an Advanced Placement exam in 2016–17, 60.5 percent received a qualifying score of 3 or better, a 1.5 percent increase year-over-year. This success rate exceeds the performance of students in Texas at 46.4 percent, students in the U.S. at 57.5 percent and students internationally at 58 percent.
“We’re proud to announce AISD has increased student participation, the number of exams taken and performance on the Advanced Placement exams,” Superintendent Paul Cruz said. “This speaks to the hard work of our staff to prepare students for college, career and life.”
This year, the number of AISD students taking AP exams also increased by 5 percent, the number of AP exams taken increased by 4 percent and the number of AP exams earning a three or higher increased by 8 percent.
Advanced Placement courses are offered at all AISD high schools, and three middle schools— at Fulmore, Murchison and Webb—offer AP Spanish Language. All high schools had some students participate in AP testing.
Students who attend a public college or university in Texas are eligible to receive college credit for their qualifying scores.
