麻豆果冻传媒 ISD鈥檚 Pride Week culminates Saturday with the Pride Y鈥檃ll! celebration at the Performing 馃帹 Arts Center. Also on Saturday, 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD will be participating in the Annual 隆S铆 Se Puede! C茅sar Ch谩vez March & Day of Action at Parque Zaragoza.
馃搮 At noon on Saturday, the Board of Trustees will hold a special voting meeting to adopt a search profile for the new 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD Superintendent. The public comment line will be open until 3:00 pm on Friday, March 24.
馃帀 We also continue celebrating Women鈥檚 History Month with a profile of bilingual education pioneer and Latina trailblazer Hermelinda Rodriguez, who spent 25 years working at 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD 馃彨馃崕.听听
鈿狅笍 And remember to mark your calendars 馃棑锔 that Friday, March 31 and Friday, April 7 are both 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD holidays. All campuses and district offices will be closed.

1 big thing: Everyone gets two paychecks starting in July 馃搮
鈿狅笍 Most importantly: This does not affect anyone鈥檚 annual pay.听
馃搮We鈥檒l get our paychecks on the 15th and the last business day of each month, which is 24 paychecks per school year for everyone.听
馃挱 Think of it this way: Instead of having to wait till the end of each month to get our entire paycheck, we鈥檒l now receive half of it two weeks earlier than we鈥檙e used to getting it.听
鉂 But why? This is a big change, and one that was carefully considered. The main goal is to provide consistency for employees. With everyone receiving paychecks at the same time, regardless of position or pay grade, that consistency is easier to maintain.听听
Dates to remember:

July 14: All Central Office and year-around staff get their first semi-monthly paycheck.听

Aug. 15: All staff returning to campuses in August (teachers, teacher assistants, counselors, and librarians) get their first paycheck.

3. Celebrating 馃帀 the life of bilingual education pioneer Hermelinda Rodriguez
This is the third in a month-long profile series spotlighting women leaders and trailblazers for whom 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD schools are named.
馃彨馃崕 As 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD continues its celebration of Women鈥檚 History Month, we profile bilingual education pioneer Hermelinda Rodriguez.
馃帗 Educational legacy: At Zavala Elementary, Rodriguez became the district鈥檚 first Mexican-American principal in 1967 and implemented 麻豆果冻传媒鈥檚 first bilingual curriculum, 馃摎 earning national acclaim and the nickname 鈥渕other of bilingual education.鈥 Working with faculty at UT 麻豆果冻传媒 馃悅, Rodriguez鈥檚 curriculum became the standard for bilingual education.
馃摚 In her own words: 鈥We've got to find our identity, find out who we are and where we come from," said Rodriguez. "We have two cultures to learn and profit from. It is not our job to eliminate one or the other.鈥
馃帳 Indelible impact: 鈥淭hese were the happiest years of my childhood, I grew up proud of being Mexican,鈥 former Zavala Elementary student Roy Soto said of Rodriguez鈥檚 early bilingual classes.
National model: Rodriguez鈥檚 contributions to bilingual education were recognized with a nomination to the White House Council on Education in the early 1970s.
鉀忥笍 Go deeper: Rodriguez Elementary School in southeast 麻豆果冻传媒 is named for this Mexican-American trailblazer. As befitting the mother of bilingual education, a majority of current students at Rodriguez Elementary are English language learners.听

4. Special Education Parent Power Hour coming up March 30
Families, community members, and staff are invited to attend the upcoming 馃尲 Spring Parent and Community Engagement learning opportunities hosted by the 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD 馃崕馃彨 Special Education Department.
The department is hosting a virtual Power Hour with national speaker, Dan St. Romain, on the topic of Avoiding Power Struggles.听 Also, the department has partnered with to present a three-part series in April focused on Autism.

5. 听Latino Awards Celebrate 鈥淨uincea帽era鈥
until Friday, March 24 for this year鈥檚 Latino Academic Achievement Awards. This year鈥檚 award show will be held at the 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD Performing Arts Center on April 21 at 6:30 p.m.

6. 馃搮 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD honors C茅sar Ch谩vez and Delores Huerta Day 馃彨馃崕
馃搮In honor of Chavez and Dolores Huerta Day, Friday, March 31 is a student and staff holiday.
Everyone is invited to join us for the Annual 隆S铆 Se Puede! C茅sar Ch谩vez March & Day of Action! Saturday, March 25 at Parque Zaragoza, 2608 Gonzales St., 麻豆果冻传媒, TX 78702.
馃暏 The details: We鈥檒l begin gathering at 9:30 a.m. The brief march will start at 10 a.m. and proceed along a short route around Parque Zaragoza.

7. Pride Y鈥檃ll! community event Saturday!
馃彨馃崕馃彸锔忊赌嶐煂 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD is a time to highlight the district's commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.听
馃彸锔忊嶐煂 Pride Week activities wrap up with the districtwide "Pride Y鈥檃ll!" community celebration.
All are welcome to enjoy exhibitors, performances, activities, books, swag and breakout sessions on Saturday, March 25, 5鈥9 p.m. at the 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD 馃彨馃崕Performing Arts Center.
