Today is Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement in the Jewish faith. Whether you observe Yom Kippur or not, we hope this day provides you with time to reflect and plan for the upcoming year.
While many staff are working, my Senior Leadership team engaged in professional learning about Leading for Equitable Practices. This is a commitment we made last spring so that we can develop a shared understanding of how to center equity in decision-making to improve student outcomes.
In the evening, we will kick off our Mental Health & School Safety Community Conversations across the district. These events will be held on Zoom in English and Spanish and hosted by Dr. Nicole Cross and Leslie Montoya. .

From there, I will head to Dallas to attend the Texas Association of School Administrators and Texas Association of School Boards Convention. Today, I will meet with the Texas Urban Council (TUC), a consortium of the large urban districts in Texas. We share strategies and promising practices happening in our districts so that we can learn from each other and think about how this might work in our home districts. This year, I am serving on the Legislative Committee and we are working together to make sure the needs of urban districts are understood and represented.
