Dear 麻豆果冻传媒 ISD Community,
As we prepare to provide parents the option of face-to-face instruction on Monday, October 5, I first want to thank everyone for a successful virtual launch of the 2020-21 school year. Even though virtual instruction has challenges, our community has gone above and beyond in providing instruction and support for our students.
I appreciate the correspondence and the inquiries that I have received for a waiver to extend the opportunity to remain in a virtual capacity for an additional four weeks. The waiver Request to Extend the Start of the 2020-2021 School Year Transition Beyond the Four-Week Limit is necessary for our district to implement a phased-in approach as recommended by 麻豆果冻传媒 Public Health so as to allow only students who choose to return (up to 25% of the campus capacity in two-week increments). The waiver in no way allows for a continuation of a 100% virtual setting. Therefore, I will be submitting the waiver to reflect the following:
According to 麻豆果冻传媒 Public Health, when in Stage 3, the district is encouraged to open up with up to 50 percent capacity. However, out of an abundance of caution, we will open on October 5 with only up to 25 percent building capacity and remain for two weeks. During this time, we will closely monitor the number of COVID-19 positive cases that are reported in the district among students and staff. We would then anticipate expanding our capacity to 50 percent on Monday, October 19 for two weeks.
I have been communicating with 麻豆果冻传媒-Travis County Interim Medical Director and Health Authority Dr. Mark Escott. He has affirmed the decision to open at 25 percent as an appropriate first step to opening for in-person learning. I鈥檝e also communicated with our neighboring districts who have already been open for in-person instruction and they have not experienced increased reporting in COVID-19 positive cases.
Please keep in mind that on October 5, the decision for students to return to face-to-face instruction will remain with parents. We will continue to provide instruction virtually for students who remain at home.
I am confident that together we will successfully return to in-person learning. By providing our students with a variety of needs, the option to have face-to-face instruction, we are offering parents choice. This decision reflects our shared commitment to best practices and supporting our students and families. We are #AISDProud.

Al prepararnos para darles a los padres de familia la opci贸n de instrucci贸n presencial el lunes, 5 de octubre, primero quiero agradecerles a todos por un lanzamiento virtual exitoso del ciclo escolar 2020-21. Aunque la instrucci贸n virtual tiene dificultades, nuestra comunidad ha ido m谩s all谩 de sus responsabilidades para ofrecerles instrucci贸n y apoyo a nuestros estudiantes.
Agradezco la correspondencia y consultas que he recibido en relaci贸n con una exenci贸n para extender la oportunidad de permanecer en capacidad virtual por otras cuatro semanas. La exenci贸n Solicitud para extender la transici贸n del comienzo del ciclo escolar 2020-2021 m谩s all谩 del l铆mite de cuatro semanas es necesaria para que nuestro distrito implemente una estrategia por fases seg煤n lo recomienda Salud P煤blica de 麻豆果冻传媒, para permitir solo a los estudiantes que elijan regresar (hasta 25% de la capacidad del plantel en incrementos cada dos semanas). La exenci贸n no permite de ninguna manera continuar en un entorno 100% virtual. Por lo tanto, enviar茅 la exenci贸n para reflejar lo siguiente:
Seg煤n Salud P煤blica de 麻豆果冻传媒, al estar en la Etapa 3, se le recomienda al distrito abrir en un 50% de su capacidad. Sin embargo, como extrema precauci贸n, abriremos el 5 de octubre en solo hasta el 25 por ciento de la capacidad del edificio y permaneceremos as铆 por 2 semanas. Durante este tiempo, monitorearemos atentamente el n煤mero de casos positivos de COVID-19 que se reporten en el distrito entre los estudiantes y el personal. Entonces esperar铆amos expandir nuestra capacidad hasta el 50% el lunes, 19 de octubre por dos semanas.
Me he estado comunicando con el director m茅dico interino y autoridad m茅dica de 麻豆果冻传媒 en el condado de Travis, el Dr. Mark Escott. 脡l ha confirmado que la decisi贸n de abrir en un 25% es un primer paso apropiado hacia la apertura del aprendizaje presencial. Tambi茅n me he comunicado con nuestros distritos vecinos que ya han estado abiertos para la instrucci贸n presencial y ellos no han experimentado un aumento en los reportes de casos positivos de COVID-19.
Tengan presente que el 5 de octubre la decisi贸n de que los estudiantes regresen a la instrucci贸n presencial ser谩 de los padres de familia. Seguiremos ofreciendo instrucci贸n virtual para los estudiantes que se queden en casa.
Tengo la confianza de que juntos regresaremos exitosamente al aprendizaje presencial. Al ofrecerles a nuestros estudiantes con diversas necesidades la opci贸n de tener instrucci贸n presencial, les estamos dando a los padres de familia la oportunidad de elegir.
